SAMM Music For Memories

SAMM is an organization that focuses on specific dementia and Alzheimer's care. Music is one of the most powerful treatments we have. It engages something in the brain that we as humans don't yet understand. After my own individual research, I have found that hands on performances that are individualized to a person can have twice or even three times the effect as a regular performance. Because it is so hard to get into an Alzheimer's home as a visitor, it can be very challenging to get volunteers in and that means that the community often gets overlooked. SAMM is here to fix this problem. We do hands-on individualized sessions with one volunteer and one support per elder to try to engage that social connection piece. Social isolation and elder loneliness is a massive risk as it increases morbidity of the condition. SAMM is a one-of-a-kind organization dedicated to bettering the Alzheimer's community.
