Drowning in Exams? Here’s a Way to Learn What You Actually Love

Exam season is coming up, which means we will soon be wrapped up into a marathon of cram-studying, packed schedules, early mornings, and assignments. But this doesn’t just mean more studying, it means learning subjects we love is followed by a shadow of pressure to get good marks. In busy times like these, it is important to find time to learn topics we love, and are curious about, to encourage our joy of learning.

This is exactly why Unboxed was created.

If you aren’t familiar yet, Unboxed is an educational, student-led nonprofit that helps K-12 students explore complex, real world, industry-level ideas. Through clear explanations, real-world materials, and guided thinking, we empower learners to ask deeper questions and pursue knowledge for the joy of understanding.

An overview of our programs:

  1. Article Collaboration With Experts: we connect students with experts - professors, PhD students, research scientists, economists, financial analysts, lawyers, etc - who mentor them with crucial and recent knowledge in their field, and then help the student publish an article as a result of their learning. These articles are shared on our website, and given a spotlight on our social media platforms
  1. The Curiosity Journal: The Curiosity Journal is a student-led publication where ideas come first. We welcome students to submit original writing on any topic they’re genuinely interested in at any time of the year — whether personal reflections, social issues, creative theories, intellectual explorations, or bold solutions. No citations or rigid academic structures are needed. Just curiosity, critical thinking, and your authentic voice.
  1. Workshops: These focus on helping students rediscover the joy of thinking — through discussion, experimentation, reflection, and shared curiosity — rather than performance or assessment. Look out on our website for our upcoming debate workshop!
  1. Podcasts: Our first series is Great Minds Unboxed. This podcast series is all about exploring how leaders think, solve problems, and turn ideas into reality. Through conversations with experts (and rising changemakers), we break down the mindset, decisions, and challenges behind meaningful work.
  1. Brain Bites: A daily Instagram post that covers topics like money, economics, law, governance, and public policy with simple, bite sized pieces of knowledge 🙂

If you’re a student who loves to learn and explore academic subjects - for example, if you’ve always had an interest for business, have been wanting to explore biology more deeply, or want to know how you can build core, real-world skills in journalism - Unboxed is where you belong.
