Learn more about this huge event that happened recently on campus!

On April 18th, Appleby had the pleasure of hosting ACMUN, marking the 21st edition of our annual Model United Nations conference. Running from 7:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m., we welcomed hundreds of students from tens of schools across the GTA, creating a positive environment for debate and teamwork.

The opening ceremony featured a keynote speech from Sevaun Palvetzian, the President and CEO of UNICEF Canada. The conference concluded by recognizing the outstanding delegates, with the winners in the advanced and specialty committees qualifying for Harvard Model United Nations.

This year's theme, Dare to Dream, helped students to share their perspectives and create solutions to pressing global issues. ACMUN was open to students of all experience levels, making it an inclusive space for both new and seasoned delegates. With more than 20 committees ranging from beginner to advanced topics, participants were able to engage in a large variety of discussions.

Delegates took part in a wide range of committees, with some of them including UNICEF, UNESCO, WTO, FAO, NATO, the EU, and lots of others. Specialty committees were also included and added a more creative element to the event, with topics such as a climate crisis in 2030, space-related challenges in 2080, and even a Stranger Things-themed committee. These committees let students think critically while exploring real and fictional global scenarios.

ACMUN 2026 was a major success, made possible by the dedication of the Secretary General, Charlotte Bennett, the Chargé d'Affaires, Claire Yang, and the rest of the entire executive team, the members of the co-curricular, and all the staff and volunteers that helped fundraise and help on the day of. Their efforts ensured an organized and impactful experience, and we could not thank them enough. To all those who participated in ACMUN — we hope you all enjoyed it and see you again next year!
