The World This Week
Weather changes, world events, and a volcano about to erupt?

Do you think the weather is unpredictable in the GTA this time of year? Do you get annoyed with it fluctuating from -5 to 20 degrees every day? Well maybe don't fell so bad because on April 8th, Winnipeg had a giant snow storm with schools and business closed, as well as 5 highways that were all shut down. The snow accumulation was 15 cm but the worst part is that the temperature is now two degrees, meaning the snow is melting making it impossible to have fun because everything will be slushy and wet. This morning had very bad visibility on the road causing countless accidents.

The USA and Iran made a two week ceasefire agreement last week. There were negotiations this weekend in Pakistan to end the war, however, no agreements were made during this time. Now, the USA is blocking Iranian ships from being allowed to go through the Strait of Hormuz trying to choke the Iranian economy. Unfortunately, this would also put pressure on the rest of the world as well as making Trump's move reckless and not well thought through. Expect oil prices to go up a lot in the next few months, and if this war continues, it would make this summer very hard for the middle and lower classes. Trump also states that "Iran talks could resume over the next two days." Hopefully, this means the USA and Iran would make a deal to end this for good. We will keep you posted.

Yellowstone National Park is under what is known as a super volcano; which is "an unusually large volcano having the potential to produce an eruption with major effects on the global climate and ecosystem" (Oxford Dictionary). Evidence shows that this volcano has not erupted of over 630 million years and had not produced flowing lava for over 70,000 years. Although scientists believe the volcano will not erupt any time soon studies conducted a few days ago found magma reserves a lot closer to the surface that previously believed. This created a lot of concerns on that Internet with many flashy headlines, but the truth is that the volcano is not likely to erupt because the volcanic activity is still relatively low.

This summer, we will have El Niño in Canada (which is "a natural climate pattern where water in the Pacific Ocean near the equator becomes unusually warm, weakening typical winds and altering global weather.") This makes this summer's weather highly unpredictable and scientists expect unusually cold temperatures in the east and warm weather in the west.
