DEIB Day 2026 Recap
This was an amazing day of cultural learning and diverse perspectives!

On Monday, April 13, 2026, Appleby held its annual DEIB day. The theme this year was "Perspectives: Seeing the world through different lenses" which focussed on the diverse identities, opinions, and experiences of our community and the world beyond.
The day began with an all-school assembly, where two panels, comprised of students and staff, were presented on issues such as the school uniform. This was followed by two 40-minute morning workshops, then a two-hour immersive in the afternoon.
There was a great diversity of student-led workshops and immersives, ranging from sports, to arts, to guest speakers. Many students spoke bravely about issues often underappreciated in the school, such as the conflicts in the Middle East or 2SLGBTQIA+ rights.
Despite technical issues and scheduling changes, most students that experienced their workshops of choice gave positive feedback to the Hound, stating that they enjoyed being able to go to workshops run by their friends and that overall immersive quality was improving from previous years.

Thank you to the students and faculty that make this event better year after year. Special thanks to Yiyi Dong, Dmitri Deveaux, Finn Shao, and the entire DEIB council for their effort in creating the phenomenal DEIB day introduction video. Your efforts do not go unappreciated in the student community.
